We're on the verge of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, often described as the first modern war, and certainly among the most destructive ever waged.

Thanks, Ken, I'll take you up on that, and definitely share. My research for my historical novels about the Vigilantes has encompassed most phases of life during Civil War era in Montana, including banking, business, and (of course) the legal situation. I've nailed both novels so tightly to the history that one reviewer suggested I call them "creative nonfiction."
I'll be happy to point to helpful sources, but many of them are unpublished and in the Historical Society archives, or the Thompson-Hickman Library in Virginia City, as well as the UMT and MSU holdings.
