As just about everyone with a computer knows, the World Wide
Web has become an amazing vehicle for connecting people; online
social networking and the advent of various "web 2.0" features have
redefined how we use technology to enhance our everyday lives. Here
at Humanities Montana, we've been thinking a lot lately about how
to use the Web to better serve our mission: "to bring the
humanities, their insights and values, to the people of
Montana." To that end, you'll see numerous changes made to our modest social network, and to the Humanities Montana website, over the next weeks and months. Along with a new name—"Humanities Roundtable"—we've given the social network some much needed spit and polish. More than that, we're working to develop the site into a robust virtual community where people are actively sharing their ideas, interests and experiences in truly substantive and compelling ways. We'll have guest authors, historians, theorists and other humanities thinkers leading us in interesting online discussions. We'll be showcasing the impressive, varied work of many of our grantees. Soon several of our talented and knowledgeable Bureau Speakers and OpenBook Discussion Leaders will use the site to promote their subjects and to carry on open discussions with members of the community. We're very excited by what can be done here, and we welcome your input. We've set up an online discussion called Regarding the Roundtable where community members can comment on the site and provide ideas for improvement. Please join in and let us know what you think.
