"As a senior in high school, I am personally more interested in the why as opposed to the how. Like purpose instead of method. The appeal of a humanities-based education to me is learning to interpret. Solving a complex equation is rewarding, but…"

Dr. Wendt~

Thank you so much for pointing this site out to me. Everything I have read ao far I have enjoyed immensly. I read your discussion on humanities and public schools, and as a student my opinion lies with Cole. I agree in that it seems we are few, but have hope! We are strong! The topic reminds me of something my father told me, and it was a response he had to one of my more juvenile and rhetorical questions (Why do i even bother going to school? this life is so short). He told me the greatest gift, and the most valuable i could have for this short life, is knowledge. Knowledge that cultivates into a wisdom, and you can re-read cole's reply if you wonder about the rest of our conversation. :) Again, thank you- i am excited to see what other intellectual treasures hide here...and i'm glad i'm not too late!

Oh, and anytime you feel like switching me to AP history. . . (It's a shame i went to career center)- I'm ready! :)

I am seeking manuscripts for the October issue about the state of humanities in public secondary schools. This forum is a wonderful exchange of ideas, and I'm so heartened to see the humanities being supported.I would love to hear about successful programs and strategies for keeping such classes strong in the face of challenges from…See More
