I know, even I was stunned when I looked out the window and there' s more! Apparently, Tuesday was the coldest Tuesday ever recorded in Montana. Not sure if I got the date right, but it was freezing! I am smiling at the Birkenstocks and…

Snow already? Crikey. Missoula's out as a potential retirement destination for me. Ha! I know the high-heeled hobble, I do it even in dry weather. I'm more a flat-footed clown shoe type. Birkenstocks and boots, heels mostly for my…

Now, that's it, enough! I'll just have to go! I won't be happy now 'til I've walked "on the Elbe." Today, we had our first snow in MIssoula, Montana. I drove to work like an old granny, petrified I might lose…

Dear Clair, thanks for writing.Yay! Hamburg is exquisite, my favourite city in the world. Well, of all the world I know so far. The trees are turning golden- brown, the birds outside my window have quieted down, the biggest treat is to walk on the…

Hi Marie, How's the weather in Hamburg, a place I've always wanted to visit? My best friend in grad school (University of Bradford, West Yorkshire), Stella Pearce's mother Helga is from Hamburg. I have this vision in my head of what…

I am smiling at the Birkenstocks and flat-footed clown shoes. My shoe rack is kind of frenetic, there's the wild and wacky heelers that will crucify your feet every time and then there's the less attractive snowboots, hiking boots, sneakers and flatties. Yes, we all have a good selection of flatties. The good, old dependables, as I like to think of them, the ones that won't die even if you want them to and they'll take you where you want to go with bells on. God bless the flatties, where would we be without them. Usually, I go from crucifies to flatties at about 4 pm each day, i.e. after I have finished my shift at Humanities Montana and picked up my lovely, loud, obnoxious children. Long live the lovely, loud obnoxious Leonards. Where would I be without them and me trusty flatties.

I drove to work like an old granny, petrified I might lose control of the Dodge minivan. It was touch and go when a snowplough pulled out in front of me on campus. Those UM snowploughs are on the ball, the rest of Missoula is a mess, but the pathways and roads around Gallagher Business Building are neatly ploughed. 'Definitely will have to rethink the wardrobe if this weather keeps up. The high heels just don't cut it in winter weather. They're a bit slidey and they absorb moisture, so I was hobbling along like an "egit" (fool) instead of being all glam, as I had originally intended. It's snow tyres, snow boots and thermal thingies from here on out, unless I get those tickets to Hamburg...

Hi Marie,
How's the weather in Hamburg, a place I've always wanted to visit? My best friend in grad school (University of Bradford, West Yorkshire), Stella Pearce's mother Helga is from Hamburg. I have this vision in my head of what it must be like, big ships, die Aldstadt, Kaffee und Kuchen with family and friends, maybe someday I'll make it there and have a chance to experience it for real. Great to see you at Happy Tales.
