The Miles City Bucking Horse Sale began as a way for local ranchers to get rid of spoiled and unruly
ranch horses. But today the Sale is a four-day celebration of
rodeo, ranching, arts, and culture, an event author Sneed B. Collard III calls The Cowboy Mardi Gras in his new book The World Famous Miles City Bucking Horse Sale.

Do you know the difference between a bareback ride and saddlebronc ride? Clue: it's not just the saddle. What do rodeo clowns prefer to be called? (Not clowns.) Why aren't women allowed to ride in Bucking Horse Sale events? When did Gene Autry appear at The Sale?

Hear the answers to these questions and more when Sneed B. Collard III is my guest on The Write Question. Tune in Thursday evening, September 23, at 7:30 (Montana Public Radio) or 6:30 (Yellowstone Public Radio) to hear all about it.

Thanks for listening! And thanks to the board of Humanities Montana for their continued support of TWQ.
